Writings Added and Updated

I’ve added a new navigation link and page (accessible to the right in that little box–yes, that one!) for my writings. I’m planning on posting new works over the course of the next month or two as time permits. Since most of my writing consists of snippets written as an exercise or toying with a new idea, many of my works aren’t exactly in a finished state. Thus, the real challenge is sifting through the majority for a handful of short stories that are in a reasonably finished state, revising them, editing them for the web, and posting them here.

As it stands, I have posted an epic poem written back in 2004. It’s unfinished, but if people enjoy it, I may sit down and complete it. I plan on finishing it eventually, but I do have other interests at the moment which happen to be taking priority. To that extent, the reception of my work will determine how soon I get around to working on it!

This is wonderful stuff, Ben. If anyone knows me really well (WoW alias: Snobal, Daddydunt), they probably know me as one of those literary haters. I’m “that guy” who, upon any mentioning of literature, will jump out and clearly voice my negative opinions on the subject matter.

However, upon reading your poetry–and your latest post “The Korvaid”– You’ve given me a twinkle of hope and open mindedness to the world of literature and what it has to offer. This may seem a little extreme but you’ve inspired me to pick up on the Forgotten Realms series by David Eddings once again.

But you know the saying: “If you give a mouse a cookie, he’s going to want a glass of milk to go with it.” I can’t guarantee you I’m a mouse (or am I?) but I want more posts of your works none-the-less. And I hope that maybe through this post and others you may find motivation to continue/finish your writings.

Your statements (here, and via IM) are about the right kind of motivation I need to finish this. I certainly appreciate your kind words, Will! While I do have a few other projects I’m working on for the time being, I think I may set aside a week in the not-so-distant future to apply myself toward another installment in the Korvaid. It’s been about five years since I wrote it, so I may have to spend that time practicing just to get the tone right!

I’d also recommend reading the Fagles’ translation of Homer’s Iliad. That was what originally inspired me to write the Korvaid. It’s a crying shame that he died just last year. It doesn’t seem that most of the American lit-types have heard of him, which I find surprising; Fagles’ was, in my mind, one of the literary giants whose efforts to translate archaic works breathed new, fresh, and incredible life into the writings of antiquity. Accept no substitute: No one else comes even close.

Thanks again, Will. I’ll be posting a few short stories in the future. Stay tuned! (Oh, and probably a few more benchmarks with better graphs; the existing ones kinda suck.)
